A specialism, not a side job

A well-fitted stair runner can transform a staircase — and it's easy to get wrong. Every tread and riser is cut, wrapped and fixed by hand, with the pattern running true from top to bottom and the binding sitting flush throughout. Over the years we've fitted countless runners across London homes — see our Projects page for recent examples.

Herringbone, striped & more

Herringbone is our most-requested pattern, but we fit striped wool runners, plain wool with a contrast binding, and other classic designs too. Every pattern is matched precisely across each step, finished with your choice of black or contrasting binding along the edges. Ask us to bring samples along on your free measurement visit.

Finishing details

The finish is what makes a runner look properly fitted rather than just laid down. We offer cotton binding for a crisp, tailored edge, or a hand-whipped finish for a softer, more traditional look — both done as part of the same visit, alongside the runner itself.

Winders, half-landings and period staircases

Very few London staircases are simple. Winders, curved treads, half-landings and worn period timbers all need the runner cutting and easing by hand so the pattern stays straight as the stairs turn. That's the part that takes experience, and it's the part we're known for.

Common questions

Can you fit a runner on a turning staircase?
Yes. Winders and half-landings are normal work for us — each turning tread is cut and eased by hand so the pattern keeps running true.
Runner or fully fitted stair carpet?
A runner shows off a good staircase and is easier to replace later; a fully fitted carpet is warmer, quieter and hides tired timber. We'll look at your stairs and say which we'd do.
Brass rods or fixed?
Both. Rods suit a period staircase and look beautiful; a fixed runner is the more practical choice on a busy family stair.
How long does a staircase take?
A typical staircase and landing is a day's work, with the runner cut and bound to your measurements beforehand.
